Make sure you get enough sleep.
The time that you go to bed is super important. Science has proven that the body needs at least 8 hrs of sleep per night for the body and mind to function properly and will also keep your overall well-being in check!
Some of the scary side effects of not having enough sleep are waking up in a grumpy mood, feeling less energized for the day ahead and exhausted waking up, then your brain feeling sluggish to process and make decisions.
So what this means, is if you want to become a morning person, start by going to bed early and get at least 7-8 hours of sleep. By doing that, you will wake up more energized and ready to face the day!

Do not hit snooze on your alarm.
Definitely, we all like getting an extra use 5 or 10 minutes of sleep which seems super appealing at the moment. But in reality, hitting snooze on the alarm clock is much less beneficial for us than it appears.
If you have this tendency of snoozing, here are two solutions:

- You could also keep your alarm clock on the other side of the bed as far away as possible out of reach (though of course, still loud enough to wake you).

Keep a consistent sleep schedule.
While it’s easy our bedtimes vary by our daily activities, our body’s rhythm is much more in tune when we consistently go to sleep and rise at the same times every day.
Once this habit sets in the brain, it becomes a routine to be the body, and it starts functioning as a natural thing.
For instance, your body is used to doing things like brushing your teeth, showering, eating on autopilot – meaning you don’t struggle to do these regular daily activities.
The reason being since you frequently do the same activity at the same time, every day, the body was able to adapt it into being a routine and from there it becomes easy and flows along nicely into your day!
The same case will apply to a consistent sleep schedule, train the body to sleep same time and rise the same time in the morning… Within no time at all, the body will acquire the rhythm naturally and start working on autopilot.
If going to bed on time is no longer a struggle and if waking up is no longer a struggle either, then you will start loving your mornings.
It’s good also to be realistic and set goals that you’ll be able to stick to.
Create the right night-time routine.
After I have had my supper, I personally like to listen to motivational audio books, while sipping my tea. I enjoy chamomile tea (which works best because of its calming effect which helps me set up for bedtime mode).
while listening I will also be reflecting how my day was and noting down bits and pieces in a journal and I repeat this every night.
Initially, it was hard to keep up the night-time routine, but over time, my body got used to this ritual and it now knows when it is time to do this and then shut down and go to sleep.
Night-time routine helps set up your morning in an organized way, it prepares you for the next day and you will start the day refreshed!
By going to bed on time, your body and mind won’t be stressed when you wake up. And you will find your mornings more organized, fun and easy to handle!
Always have something to look forward to.
I have said before in my previous post here that planning your week ahead in advance is super crucial for a productive week.
One more essential thing to add for the next time you are preparing your week is to make sure that you add activities to look forward to every day.
Make sure while creating your plan for the week that the activities you choose are interesting, motivate you, and make you eager and excited about the upcoming days.
Set up activities throughout the week you look forward to. Give yourself a reason to jump out of bed again! I know this varies from one person to another but here are some inspirational ideas that may help you get started:
- Look forward to an exciting breakfast.
- Dinners with friends.
- Look forward to catching up with a friend such as meeting up after work or going out for lunch together.
- Another thing, you could even do is have a small side hustle job that pays you well. This will help you to always look forward to doing it as in the end all your hard work, you will get some extra money to play with!
All you need is the reason, one reason every day to kick-start your day.
Create a simple morning routine.
Create an inspiring morning routine that you will be comfortable with. Immediately when you wake up, you could for instance:
- Drink a glass of water (have a water bottle beside your bed ready for this).
- Open the curtains to let the light in! This also opens the doors in our brains, which are sensitive to light and need it to thrive.

Stop using your phone to wake you up.
If you genuinely want to successfully become a morning person, then the first thing is investing in a simple alarm clock that will actually help get you out of bed.
The problem with using your phone is
- it keeps chirping messages and etc. all through the night,
- it’s also way too easy to hit snooze.
